On Friday, Twitter announced the suspension of 32,242 accounts, including thousands of accounts in Turkey, for violating the rules and policies of the social networking site.

In a statement, "Twitter" confirmed its monitoring and disabling of 7340 Turkish accounts, which were carrying out a coordinated hypothetical activity, targeting mainly the people inside Turkey.

Based on an analysis of the technical indicators of the network and the behavior of the accounts, Twitter clarified that these fake accounts were harnessed in order to "polish" the image of the Justice and Development Party, which is headed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and to defend the policies adopted by the Turkish President.

"Twitter" explained that the analysis of the technical data that was studied indicated that the accounts are linked to the "youth wing" in Justice and Development, and the existence of a central network that manages a large number of compromised accounts.

The social networking site noted that it had detected a network of compromised accounts linked to organizations critical of Erdogan and the performance of the Turkish government, as they were frequent targets of piracy operations by Turkish government agencies.

Twitter concluded its statement by noting that it has been following fake Turkish accounts since the beginning of 2020, and has shared associated data with two leading research institutions, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and the Stanford Internet Observatory.
